HISTORY OF MICROBOARDS

David and Faye Wetherow developed the concept of Microboards in the early 1980s in Canada. The WISCONSIN MICROBOARD™ ASSOCIATION (WMA) was established in 2010, with the help of David Wetherow and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services – Pathways to Independence Initiative (Medicaid Infrastructure Grant). Founding members were Ruth Adix, Terri Larson-Baxter, Cindy Kernan and Donna Loew. The WMA is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization.

The first two Microboards in Wisconsin were established in 2011 by Deanna Yost. The WMA obtained the trademark in Wisconsin in 2020. Individual Microboard adherence to Trademark standards is communicated annually to the Department of Health Services - IRIS section (Include, Respect, I Self-Direct) through a process of Letters of Recognition.
